For this project, we were appointed to design and deliver six luxury spa sites in the heart of London for a fast-growing wellness brand expanding its offering.
From the outset, our brief covered the full thermal journey: two custom ice baths, a dedicated relaxation area, and the core thermal rooms , sauna and steam. The objective was consistency, atmosphere, and a premium experience that felt intentional at every touchpoint.
With the ice baths, our priority was integration. We dislike when freestanding plunge tubs feel like oversized machinery dropped into a space with no cohesion. To overcome this, we designed fully bespoke units in collaboration with Brass Monkey, cladding the exterior in the same tile used throughout the relaxation area floor to create material continuity. The result was a seamless, architectural installation that felt embedded within the design language of the room rather than added as an afterthought.
The relaxation area was designed as a true decompression zone between thermal cycles. The space features six custom resting beds, positioned to allow both privacy and openness. Low-level ambient lighting and soft background audio create a calm sensory environment, while carefully selected finishes absorb sound and soften the acoustics. The layout encourages users to slow down — transitioning from heat or cold into stillness — reinforcing the longevity and ritual of the spa journey rather than making it feel transactional.
The sauna showcases bespoke, two-tier curved benching crafted from Thermo Alder. We selected this timber for its softer, modern tone, which aligned perfectly with the client’s brand and was carried consistently across all six sites to maintain identity. The space is heated by an 18kW Tulikivi soapstone heater, chosen for both performance and presence. Behind the heater, we installed a full soapstone feature wall , a strong architectural focal point that not only elevates the design but also acts as a practical safety measure in a high-use commercial setting, protecting the structure from long-term heat exposure and charring.
The steam room delivers a standout luxury finish. It features custom benching with ergonomic contours and a semi-circular vaulted ceiling, finished in a beautifully applied microcement. Integrated fibre-optic star lighting within the ceiling creates a subtle “night sky” effect, enhancing the immersive atmosphere. The curved ceiling form assists with condensation control, allowing moisture to run cleanly to the perimeter, improving both comfort and longevity. Combined with soft perimeter lighting and precision temperature control, the space offers a deeply enveloping and refined steam experience.
Across all six locations, the focus was clear: cohesive materiality, commercial durability, and a wellness journey that feels considered from entry to exit.
